East Street in Prittlewell was closed for a period this evening after a collision involving a cyclist and a red car near Prittlewell train station, at the junction with St Benets Road.
The cyclist’s bicycle was left under the front of the vehicle, and police attended the scene to investigate. The extent of the cyclist’s injuries is not yet known.
Local residents have shared their thoughts on the incident, with some pointing to ongoing issues at the junction. Tony Ford commented, “Photos show that the car was traveling along East Street and therefore had priority. It would appear that the cyclist has crossed its path.”
Another local, Cee Pee, described the difficulties of navigating the area, regardless of the mode of transport. “That junction is generally a nightmare from whichever section you’re coming from and whatever method you’re using.”
Cycling safety and road behaviour have also sparked debate following the incident. Dexter Banks shared his frustration about some cyclists ignoring road rules. “The amount of cyclists I see just cycling through red lights! Idiots! Surprised there aren’t more accidents like this. Hardly any delivery drivers have lights on their bikes either.”
Police are continuing their investigation into the collision, and motorists are advised to approach the area with caution.
