A12 in Essex closed for hours after a lorry hit a bridge

A major section of the A12 was closed Southbound for the entire morning after the collision.

A lorry collided with a bridge and the central reservation on the Southbound carriageway near Witham, earlier this morning.

The driver of the lorry was arrested. Traffic was being delayed for over an hour approaching the crash site.

The National Highways Agency led the response to the incident due to the complex recovery operation, with support from Essex Police.
