c2c commuters were disrupted this morning after Basildon train station was “completely trashed” in a severe incident of vandalism.
c2c Rail said chip and pin readers, windows, posters, poster boards and their WiFi network were all damaged in the incident.
The company said the vandalism caused delays to commuters during the rush hour.
British Transport Police have arrested one person following analysis of CCTV footage.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “We received a report of a vandalism at Basildon railway station at 3.21am this morning (28 February). A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken to police custody where he remains.”
A spokesperson for c2c Rail added: “Unfortunately, as the card readers at the ticket office have been broken, we are currently unable to take card payments at the ticket office so if you need to pay by card, please use the ticket machines, c2c app or c2c website.”
