Emergency response after major water main bursts in Shoebury

A major water main burst overnight in Shoebury, causing a significant flood. The roundabout at The Angel Inn was impassable.

Multiple cars have broken down after driving into the flood water and local residents are helping to tow cars out of the flooded area.

According to local residents, the water main burst at around 1am and was flooding the road until around 6am.

The pressure of the water has created a large hole that is reported to extend under the road. Multiple engineers from Essex & Suffolk Water are now on site dealing with the issue, as well as clean up crews.

There is a lot of slippery mud on the road so they have also brought in a road sweeper machine.

A spokesperson for Essex & Suffolk Water said: “At around 3am this morning, we received reports of a burst on a large water main on Parson Corner roundabout in Shoeburyness, Essex.

“Our teams attended quickly and have been working hard through the night to try and clear flooding to the roundabout – and have been re-zoning the network in order to try and keep everyone in supply.

“Some customers may experience low pressure this morning as our network re-fills. We are working closely with a very small number of customers who may be experiencing either no water or external flooding to nearby gardens.

“Thank you for your patience, and we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

The water company has been working with Essex Police to close the road in order to allow their engineers to work safely. Traffic management restrictions will be put in place.
