Firefighters tackle major tyre fire after arson attack

Firefighters tackled this “deliberate” fire in Southend early this morning, which involved two tonnes of tyres and a number of vehicles.

The fire was in a yard at RSK Tyres behind Sainsburys and Halfords on London Road.

Reports of the fire came in at around 2am.

Incident Commander David Gomez said:

“Our crews did a fantastic job of surrounding the fire and stopping it from spreading to nearby buildings.

“It was thanks to their hard work and skill that we managed to quickly bring it under control and extinguish it within 90 minutes.”

A Fire Investigation Officer has concluded the cause of the fire was deliberate.
