Infinity Showbar in Southend closes after five years of drag, glitter and good times

A much-loved LGBTQ+ venue in Southend has shut its doors after five colourful years.

Infinity Showbar & Lounge, based on Alexandra Street in the heart of Southend, was known for its electric atmosphere and its regular drag queen performances, drawing crowds from across the city.

The venue built a loyal following as a safe and inclusive space for all – regardless of identity, gender or orientation.

The closure comes after the landlord terminated the lease, leaving the team behind Infinity with little choice but to shut up shop. In a heartfelt statement, the owners confirmed the news and expressed their gratitude to the community that supported them over the years.

“We are sorry to announce that we have had to close this venue due to the landlord terminating the lease,” the statement read. “We are currently on the lookout for a new venue in the area, but of course, this will take some time. For now, we would like to thank you for your custom, support and all the memories we created together on Alexandra Street.”

They added: “Thank you to each and every one of you for your custom over the last five years.”

Infinity earned a reputation as one of Southend’s go-to nightlife spots for drag and cabaret, with acts like the Drag Hags of Essex and the ever-popular ‘Lady OH!’ taking to the stage.

The performances were often described as high-energy, witty and wildly entertaining, showcasing what the owners called some of the “most talented artists in the region.”
