Just Announced: Outdoor cinema events coming to Southend Pier, Shoebury East Beach & Thorpe Bay

Immersive outdoor cinema is coming to Southend-on-Sea this summer – Vision Cinema has revealed they are hosting a series of open-air movie events across some of the city’s most scenic locations this summer.

The events company are experts at transforming outdoor spaces into atmospheric cinema settings.

This year they will be setting up big screens at Southend Pier, Shoeburyness East Beach and Thorpe Bay between June and August 2025.

Vision Cinema events promise an elevated outdoor cinema experience with HD LED screens, immersive surround sound, and high-end food and drink options – all under the open sky.

Outdoor Cinema at Shoebury East Beach: 27–29 June

Shoebury East Beach will host the first leg of the summer tour, with three nights of outdoor films planned.

“Vision Cinema transforms movie nights with stunning outdoor screenings, immersive sound, and breathtaking visuals. Guests can sit back, relax, and enjoy films like never before under the open sky,” a spokesperson said.

Visitors can expect everything from cult classics to recent hits, with cosy seating, warm blankets, and on-site food delivered straight to your chair via mobile ordering. Food and drink options include gourmet treats like chicken and waffles, luxury milkshakes, cocktails, desserts and more.

Movie Schedule (Shoebury East Beach):

  • Friday June 27: Mamma Mia (17:00).
  • Saturday June 28: Despicable Me 4 (10:30), Mamma Mia (13:10), Hazard (16:40), The Monkey (19:25).
  • Sunday June 29: Inside Out 2 (10:30), Captain America (13:20), Coach Carter (16:20), The Hangover Part || (19:40).

Outdoor Cinema in Thorpe Bay: 4–6 July

The open-air cinema heads next to truGym Thorpe Bay. The popular local fitness venue will be temporarily transformed into a lively outdoor screening space.

Expect a mix of family favourites, action blockbusters and nostalgic throwbacks. Whether you want something to do in Southend with friends, planning a family evening out, or looking for a more memorable date night, the event offers something for everyone.

Movie Schedule (Shoebury East Beach):

  • Friday July 4: Mamma Mia (17:00).
  • Saturday July 5: Inside Out 2 (10:30), Captain America (13:00), Hazard (16:00), Dirty Dancing (18:30).
  • Sunday July 6: Despicable Me 4 (10:30), Lion King (13:00), Dirty Dancing (16:10), The Hangover Part || (19:20).

Outdoor Cinema on Southend Pier: 13–17 August

The grand finale of the season takes place at Southend Pier on the world’s longest pleasure pier! A truly unique spot to catch a film outdoors.

With five days of screenings planned, this event is expected to be the most popular. Viewers can enjoy top-tier audio-visual setups while relaxing above the water, all just a short walk from Southend city centre.
