The construction of a new £1.2million fast-food drive-through in Southend has been completed and opened to customers.
Plans were first submitted to build the new fast-food outlet in July 2010. Southend council’s planners then gave the go ahead for the KFC in the Greyhound Retail Park, off Greyhound Way, at the beginning of 2011.
The new drive-through has been built in a section of what was a car park for the Matalan store. Cut into land at the back of the car park, next to Sutton Road, the area was mostly unused. Any space around the new development has been landscaped accordingly and a new planting scheme designed.
The opening of the KFC franchise restaurant has created 19 full-time and 35 part-time jobs. The new drive-through is part of KFC’s investment of £150million that will see the fast food giant open between 200 and 300 restaurants between 2009 and 2013. The chain of fried chicken restaurants, currently employs around 20,000 people in over 800 stores.
The restaurant’s opening hours are: Monday – Saturday 10:30am – 10:00pm and Sunday 11:00am – 10:00pm
