A shocking altercation happened on the A127 on Sunday 1 September, following a collision at the Progress Road traffic lights junction.
The driver of a silver Audi A3 allegedly crashed his car into another vehicle and a motorcyclist, while approaching the junction, but then showed no intent to stop.
A van driver who noticed the incident blocked the Audi’s path at the junction and the driver was then encouraged to pull over on the A127, by Belfairs Court.
Frank Pettigrew who was a driver of one of the vehicles involved said: “The Audi driver stunk of alcohol. The police were called and the Audi driver tried to flee the scene again.
“He nearly ran me over when I tried to stop his vehicle from leaving before police could arrive. He failed to provide any contact details or insurance details.”
If anyone has any dashcam footage of the incident or the suspect car before or after the incident, please contact the Essex Police on 101 or via their website live chat. The crime reference number is 1/09/2024/441.
Video footage of the incident is currently being reviewed by Essex Police.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “Officers were called to the A127 between Rayleigh Weir and Progress Road at around 11.15am on Sunday, September 1 following reports of a minor collision and a disturbance. Officers are reviewing footage of the incident to determine whether any offences have taken place.”
