A police response car crashed in Southend City centre last night.

People leaving Southend Victoria train station saw the heavily damaged police car, which had crashed into the traffic lights at Queensway.

The incident happened opposite Southend Victoria train station, behind the Victoria Shopping Centre.

Essex Police said that no other vehicles were involved in the collision and officers who had been in the car were uninjured, despite the extent of damage to the police vehicle.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called to a single vehicle collision involving a police vehicle in Queensway, Southend, shortly before 10.50pm on Thursday 5 September.

“No injuries were reported. A road closure was put in place while the incident was cleared.”
