Police officer injured after being attacked from behind in Shoeburyness park

Police are appealing for witnesses after an officer was attacked from behind while on foot patrol in Shoeburyness, leaving them with head and knee injuries.

The assault happened at around 9pm on Tuesday 4 August in Gunners Park, on the dirt track running parallel to New Barge Pier Road between the car park and Magazine Road.

According to Essex Police, the officer was struck from behind without warning and knocked to the ground while carrying out the patrol.

The officer suffered injuries to their head and knee, while those responsible ran off in the direction of Magazine Road.

Officers are now carrying out enquiries to identify the suspects and are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

Police are particularly keen to hear from people who may have witnessed the assault or noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area before or afterwards.

Dashcam, cycle helmet camera or other footage captured around Gunners Park, New Barge Pier Road or Magazine Road at around the time of the incident could also prove useful to the investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Essex Police, quoting incident 1501 of 4 August. Reports can be made online, through the force’s 24/7 Live Chat service, or by calling 101.
