Wendy’s branding has been installed on a shop unit in Southend High Street, as the American chain officially confirms it is moving in with their popular hamburger restaurant. It will be just two doors away from McDonalds.
The restaurant was given approval from Southend Council to transform a former home interiors retail store into a fast food restaurant.
The new restaurant is due to open in July 2024, with staff starting training and preparing from 15 June.
Wendy’s has thousands of restaurants around the world, but is now setting its sights on expansion into the UK market. It currently has 23 restaurant locations, with one of them already in Essex in Colchester and another opening soon in Chelmsford.
The new Southend Wendy’s restaurant will be operated by franchise partner JRK Restaurants. The company says they are “growing aggressively” and plan to open over 25 units in the next 3 years across the UK within the different fast food brands they represent.
