This video was captured on Saturday in Southend City centre, showing a man attacking another man in broad daylight.

The incident happened on Chichester Road, near to Whitegate Road. It follows a series of videos we have been sent that feature anti-social behaviour in Southend.

One Southend resident said it was an example of “lawless Britain at its finest”.

This incident comes as Essex Police say they’ve stepped up patrols over the Easter weekend, providing visible policing across the city throughout the days and evenings to deal with any incidents.

Police also say they are aware of two unofficial events which have been organised for Bank Holiday Easter Monday – a motorcyclicts gathering and a car enthusiasts gathering.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “If you behave anti-socially or commit crime, we will take the strongest possible action against you. Both of these gatherings will be monitored, and anyone suspected of acting or driving illegally or antisocially will be dealt with.”

Chief Superintendent Waheed Khan added: “We know Southend is a frequent destination for bikers and car enthusiasts; the vast majority of whom add to the atmosphere in the city. But we also know events such as these have led to antisocial behaviour in the past.

“To be blunt, we won’t tolerate that. That kind of behaviour, firstly, is likely to lead to the people doing it being arrested and, secondly, will impact on families’ enjoying their time in Southend. The city is a great destination with a friendly and lively atmosphere, and we want to keep it that way.”
