The latest updates as Storm Isha hits Southend and the UK

Update 1 (22:20): Storm Isha has arrived in Southend, bringing strong winds. A “huge” oak tree has already been blown down in West Road, Westcliff. Emergency services are at the scene. Wind speeds will peak at around midnight.

Update 2 (22:45): c2c trains are now suspended between Pitsea and Southend Central due to damage to the overhead electric wires. The line is expected to be closed until at least 23:30. c2c have urged people planning to travel on Monday morning to check before they travel as “further disruption is possible”.

Update 3 (23:10): A tree has been blown down onto a car in a residential road in Southchurch. The car has been damaged but no one is thought to be injured.

Update 4 (01:00): Multiple flights that were due to land at Gatwick Airport tonight have been diverted to Paris, after failing to land during the high winds. Some flights are also being diverted to Stansted, however the airport is understood to be reaching capacity.
