Thousands of motorcyclists came to Southend seafront today for the annual Shakedown event.

However the number of people attending appears to have taken organisers by surprise. The central seafront area was full up by midday and event marshals attempted to close the area.

No more motorcycles were being allowed into the main event area to park but some motorcyclists were trying to avoid the road closures by driving up onto the pavements.

Hundreds more bikers continued to arrive into the afternoon.

Each May Bank Holiday, thousands of motorcyclists ride to the seafront where there are trade stands, live music and more!

The Southend Shakedown has long been a popular free event for any motorcycle enthusiasts and all the family!

The central seafront area, Marine Parade, is closed for the event and its now run as a first come first served basis.
