A crime scene cordon is in place outside a nightclub in Southend city centre, following an stabbing last night.

The incident happened near to the MooMoo nightclub and NatWest bank in Southend High Street.

A paramedic kit was left within the crime scene, in the Moo Moo smoking area, with blood splattered on the paving.

Police forensic officers and detectives have been investigating the scene this morning.

The incident happened on a busy night in Southend, with hundreds of people enjoying Sixth Form leavers events.

Police arrested an 18-year-old man from Wickford, in connection with the incident.

The two victims are being treated in hospital but their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening. Police say there will be increased police presence in the area today.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Officers are currently investigating after two men were assaulted on Southend High Street in the early hours of this morning.

“Officers were called to the High Street, outside MooMoo clubrooms shortly before 4am on 13 May following reports of two men being assaulted.

“The victims were taken to hospital with stab wounds. We continue to investigate the circumstances and progress the investigation with our specialist officers.

“At this stage, it’s believed this was targeted and there is no wider threat to the local community.”
