Around 30 people were involved in a “massive brawl” at the Hoy & Helmet in Benfleet, during the Fury v Usyk fight.

Some local residents are now calling for the pub to be for people aged 25+ only, claiming that younger adults are ruining “what was once a great pub”.

Police were called to the pub on Saturday night as the fight broke out in the beer garden. Pub bosses even turned off the TVs to try get control of the situation, as customers ran in fear.

The pub had recently reopened after a major refurbishment.

A local resident, Steve Turner, said: “They might have spent loads of money on fancy refit , but it doesn’t change the clientele. It’s stil the pub of choice for the local oiks and wide boys.”

Kelly Adams added: “I popped my head in there on the night they reopened and it was full of teenie boppers. I walked straight out.”

A spokesperson for the Hoy and Helmet said: “Thank you to the vast majority of people who came to watch last night’s boxing at our community pub respectfully and in good spirits. Unfortunately, there were a minority of people who were disruptive, which lead us to turn off the screen, ask some individuals to leave and also to contact police.

“We are proud to show live sport in our pub and have rigorous plans in place to manage these events efficiently and responsibly as people’s safety is our top priority.

“Thank you to everyone who came along to the pub looking to enjoy their evening peacefully and we are sorry to anyone who was caught up in any disruption. We hope to see you again soon.
