A man and a baby were rushed to hospital after a crash in Westcliff this morning, in which a car flipped onto its side on a narrow residential street.
Emergency services raced to Salisbury Avenue, in the Westborough area, at around 9am following reports of a vehicle colliding with parked cars.
Photos from the scene showed a white car lying on its side, surrounded by shattered glass and debris. Emergency services remained on site for over an hour, working to clear the wreckage and ensure the safety of those involved.
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed: “We were called around 9.10am to a road traffic collision on Salisbury Avenue in Westcliff. An ambulance was sent to the scene and transported an adult man and a baby to Southend University Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
The condition of those involved has not yet been confirmed, but emergency services acted swiftly to provide care.
Salisbury Avenue, like many streets in Westborough, is lined with parked cars on both sides, leaving little room for manoeuvre. Residents say navigating these tight roads can be difficult, even in normal traffic.
Local resident Shaun Wrainwright commented on the challenges, saying: “It’s a nightmare for bin lorries on many of the roads there – it’s so tight to get down them.” The combination of parked cars and limited space can make even minor incidents more serious.
Local drivers are being urged to take extra care on Westcliff’s narrower roads, where parked cars can create hazards, particularly in busy morning traffic.
