A police cordon was set up along part of York Road and Old Southend Road on Wednesday afternoon, 30 July, after a man in his 30s was assaulted and injured.

The attack, which took place at around 4.30pm, prompted a police emergency response, with forensics teams later seen searching the area in detail as part of the investigation.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports a man in his 30s had been assaulted at around 4.30pm and sustained injuries to his body.”

The extent of the man’s injuries has not been disclosed.

A 44-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. He remained in police custody for questioning on Thursday morning.

The police cordon remained in place into the evening, covering a section of the residential road. Police officers were seen speaking to potential witnesses, while scenes of crime officers carried out a detailed search, including forensic photography and evidence collection.

Officers are urging anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who has CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from the area, to come forward.

“If you have any information or footage you think could assist us, please get in touch,” the spokesperson added.
