A large police cordon was put in place at The Garrison in Shoebury this morning, after a serious incident overnight.
Multiple police officers were standing guard at the scene, which covered Horseshoe Crescent, next to the Garrison Clock Tower.
The cordon remained in place throughout much of the day, while Essex Police carried out investigations into the incident.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We know this will be concerning, but we would like to reassure the local community that we believe this is an isolated incident. We thank you for your patience and we will update you as soon as we are able.”
UPDATE: Essex Police have now confirmed they were called by the ambulance service at around 11.45pm last night, following a serious assault involving a knife.
A teenage boy was taken to hospital where he was said to be in a serious condition.
DS Ami Evins, who is leading the police investigation said: “We continue to investigate this serious assault and remain on scene.
“We understand that this is a concerning time for residents, but at this stage we believe there is no wider threat to the community. I’d ask anyone who may know anything or can help our enquiry to contact us.”
