Teenagers arrested after knife spotted in car and high-speed police chase

A teenager has admitted to a range of criminal offences including dangerous driving, after police officers responded to reports of someone with a knife in a car in Southend.

Officers received a call about the knife that had been seen in Ruskin Avenue at around 12.25pm on Wednesday 22 May.

The vehicle was then sighted around an hour later and officers directed it to stop but the vehicle made off and a pursuit took place.

The vehicle was eventually stopped in Great Wakering and two teenage boys were arrested.

Residents in Great Wakering report seeing a police armed response vehicle deliberately ram the suspect vehicle to bring the pursuit to a swift stop.

He appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Friday 24 May, where he admitted the charges.

He was released on conditional bail until a sentencing hearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on 14 June.

A 16 year-old, from Great Wakering, arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife, theft of a motor vehicle, and aggravated vehicle taking, has been released on bail until 21 July.
