Appeal: Police seek to identify man after attack at the Red Door in Rayleigh

Detectives investigating a serious assault at the popular Red Door pub on High Street, Rayleigh, are appealing to the public for help in identifying a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

The attack took place on Saturday, 18 January, when a man in his 20s was assaulted inside the venue, leaving him with a head injury. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the victim received medical attention.

Following initial enquiries, police arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He has since been released on bail until 10 April while the investigation continues. Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any relevant information.

A spokesperson for Essex Police urged the public to come forward, saying: “If you recognise this man or have any information about the assault, please contact us as soon as possible. Even the smallest detail could be vital to our investigation.”

Those with information, including any CCTV or mobile phone footage from the night, are encouraged to report it via the Essex Police website or use the Live Chat service, which operates 24/7. Alternatively, witnesses can call 101, quoting crime reference 42/8223/25 to ensure the information reaches the right officers promptly.

The Red Door: A cornerstone of Rayleigh’s nightlife

The Red Door has become a key fixture in Rayleigh’s nightlife scene. Known for its lively atmosphere and late-night entertainment, the venue attracts visitors from across the region.

Due to increasing demand, the bar introduced a standard entry fee of at least £5 after 10pm on most nights.

Owner Leo Molossi, who celebrated the venue’s 10th anniversary in December 2024, has been instrumental in shaping its reputation. Reflecting on the milestone, he previously commented: “We’ve worked hard to make Red Door a place people want to visit, and over the last decade, I believe we’ve really helped put Rayleigh’s nightlife on the map.”

For those looking to visit, the Red Door bar operates on the following schedule:

  • Thursday & Sunday: 5pm – midnight
  • Friday & Saturday: 3pm – 1am

As the investigation into the assault continues, anyone with relevant information is urged to assist the police in ensuring the safety and security of Rayleigh’s thriving nightlife scene.
