Emergency services rushed to a road traffic collision on Western Esplanade this afternoon, where they found a single vehicle had crashed into a bollard at a zebra crossing.

Paramedics treated a woman who had been driving the car and had reportedly suffered a heart attack causing her to fall unconscious.

The fire and rescue service aided her release from the vehicle while police officers closed the busy seafront road.

The stretch of road outside the Westcliff Genting Casino was closed from around 12pm to 3pm while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
