A “Mediterranean oasis” restaurant in Leigh-on-Sea has reopened its doors after a temporary closure – and it’s already winning 5-star praise for its refreshed decor, relaxed atmosphere and delcious food.
Brakan is located just a 5 minute walk from Leigh Broadway at 1581 London Road. The restaurant was closed for a period while its owners focused on launching a new sister venue, The Med, which opened earlier this year in Eastwood Road.
The Med has quickly gained traction for its vibrant party vibe and Greek-Turkish fusion cuisine, prompting renewed customer demand for Brakan’s return.
Responding to the interest, the team has now reopened Brakan, positioning it as a calmer, more intimate alternative to its bustling sibling venue. While The Med caters to the weekend crowd with live DJs and entertainment, Brakan is aimed at those looking for a slower pace, sophisticated dishes and a warm, ambient setting.
The restaurant has undergone an interior refresh, including an upgraded cocktail bar and soft lighting, to complement its focus on quality dining.
A spokesperson for Brakan said: “We’re thrilled to re-open our cozy Mediterranean gem in Leigh. With stunning new decor and upgraded facilities, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back in style!
“Our cozy dining environment is the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a fantastic meal. With a beautifully renewed cocktail bar and interior, we can’t wait for our loyal customers and locals to revisit us.
“You’ll see some familiar faces ready to provide you with an unbeatable dining experience in the area. A delightful selection of hearty dishes featuring our most loved chargrilled Greek and Turkish dishes await you. Our mixologists are ready to craft the finest cocktails in town – come savour their delicious creations!”
The menu draws heavily on Greek and Turkish chargrilled dishes, with popular options like lamb koftas, grilled seabass and vegetarian meze plates. The cocktail list has also been expanded, with mojitos, spritzes and signature blends already proving popular.
One happy diner, Gerry Miller, left a glowing review after a recent visit:
“Brakan has beautiful decor and was lovely and cool on such a warm evening. The service was excellent and staff really pleasant. The salmon and prawns were very well presented and generous portions beautifully cooked. Cocktails to start (mojitos for us) were well prepared. Fairly priced especially considering pricing on Leigh Road and the Broadway!”
Located at the eastern end of London Road, Brakan is just a short walk from the Broadway, making it a convenient spot for locals or those coming from Southend or Chalkwell.
