Police officers rushed to hospital after unmarked police car crashes in Southend

Two Essex Police officers were taken to hospital after the unmarked police car they were travelling in was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Southend.

The crash happened on North Avenue shortly after 2.45pm on Wednesday, July 8, prompting an emergency response from police and ambulance crews.

The two officers, who were travelling in an unmarked investigation vehicle, both suffered injuries and were taken to Southend University Hospital for treatment.

However, Essex Police confirmed that their injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured in the collision.

Police say no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. However, a man has since attended a voluntary interview as officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “Two Essex Police officers travelling in an unmarked investigation visit car were involved in a collision in North Avenue, Southend, shortly after 2.45pm on Wednesday 8 July. They were taken to hospital with injuries which required treatment but are thankfully not considered to be life-changing or life-threatening.

“The driver of the second car did not sustain any injuries. No arrests have been made, and a man has attended a voluntary interview. Our investigation is ongoing.”

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed multiple emergency crews attended the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Two ambulances and two paramedic cars were sent to North Avenue Southend On Sea on July 8 following reports of a road traffic collision. Two patients were transported to Southend University Hospital for further assessment and care.”

The investigation remains ongoing while officers establish the full circumstances of the collision.
