Black tar-like lumps washing up on Essex beaches, after tonnes of bitumen spilled into Thames
More than 15 tonnes of bitumen leaked from FM Conway’s Gravesend storage facility into the River Thames, with pollution now reaching beaches across Southend, Canvey Island and Clacton.
