Storm Ciarán is expected to track towards the City of Southend-on-Sea on Thursday, from the South West of the UK, with damaging wind speeds of between 50MPH – 80MPH.
The very strong winds associated with the storm may disrupt travel, utilities, and cause some structural damage.
People should take extra care during the storm and be aware of flying debris, roofs being blown off and power lines and trees brought down.
Roads, bridges and railway lines may need to close. Power cuts could occur and there is potential for large waves and some surface flooding on Southend seafront.
The Amber warning is in place from 6am until 8pm on Thursday.
Essex County Fire & Rescue Service have urged residents to secure anything loose outside and “only make necessary trips outdoors on Thursday”.
