Heartwarming act of kindness at Southend Hospital

A simple but thoughtful act of kindness brightened the day for ambulance crews at Southend Hospital when an unidentified woman approached them and handed out gift cards so they could enjoy a coffee on her.

Each card came with a handwritten message that read: “To let you know that you are appreciated.” It was a small gesture, but one that left a lasting impression on the hardworking paramedics.

Lauren Wheeler, one of the paramedics who received a card, recalled the moment with gratitude. She told Your Southend: “This very kind lady gave me a gift card outside the hospital. I had just finished taking a patient in when she walked up to us in the car park and handed one to both myself and my crew mate. We didn’t know her – she just wanted to say thank you for what we do.”

Another paramedic on duty, Tay Symeon, also received a gift card and shared how much it meant to them. “My crew mate and I got one too – it really made my day. I am so grateful to the lady. Sometimes our work is really painful and upsetting, but a gesture like this really helps to lift spirits.”

The selfless act resonated with many in the community, including Janet Summers, who commented: “This is so thoughtful and caring. What a lovely lady! Emergency services do such a fantastic job in all weathers, and we are so thankful to them all. You just never know when you might need one of them.”

While the identity of the kind-hearted woman remains a mystery, her generosity certainly did not go unnoticed. In a profession where long hours, difficult situations, and emotional strain are part of daily life, small moments of appreciation like this can make all the difference.
