Southend beach is set to host one of the UK’s largest cultural celebrations this Saturday 2 August, as the 2025 Sierra Leone Outing brings hundreds of visitors from across the country to the seafront.
The free, family-friendly event has been described as “the biggest and longest-running Sierra Leonean Outing event in the UK”, drawing crowds each year to celebrate Sierra Leonean heritage with food, music and community spirit.
Running from 10am to 7pm, the all-day event was officially approved by Southend City Council and is expected to transform an area of the beach into a hub of activity and celebration.
Organisers say the day will be filled with “food, music, and games”, offering something for all ages. There will also be live performances from Sierra Leonean DJs, artists and comedians, bringing vibrant entertainment to the shore.
The outing has deep roots in the UK-based Sierra Leonean community and is seen as a key date in the cultural calendar, promoting unity, heritage and joy among families and friends.
Large numbers of attendees are expected to travel in from London and beyond, with many arriving by coach or train. Coaches are being arranged from locations across East London and can be booked directly through the Sierra Leone Outing organisers.
