A 52-year-old man has been charged following a violent assault in Southend late on Friday night, 7 March 2025.
Nathan Ineson, of Southchurch Avenue, has been charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, criminal damage, and affray.
He was arrested at the scene on Old Southend Road, near York Road, within minutes of a 999 call being made and has since been remanded in custody. He is due to appear before Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 10 March.
The incident occurred around 11pm when emergency services responded to reports of an injured woman. However, before officers could assist her, the victim left the scene despite suffering suspected head injuries.
Concerned for her welfare, police issued a public appeal, urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward.
Chief Inspector Paul Hogben said: “Our utmost concern was to make sure the woman assaulted received any medical attention she needs – we asked for the public’s help to locate her as soon as possible.
Thanks to public assistance, officers successfully located the woman safe on Saturday, 8 March. Essex Police have expressed their gratitude to those who helped in the search and are continuing their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
