
Part of the A130 was closed today due to a serious collision involving a single vehicle.
All emergency services were dispatched to the scene of the incident, which happened at around 4:30am.
Motorists who were first at the scene of the major collision reported seeing a huge amount of emergency services arriving on blue lights.
Essex Police said there was a large amount of congested traffic in the area. Drivers were urged to find alternative routes as the road was expected to be closed for several hours.
The driver of the car was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
During the incident, Essex Traffic Control Centre said: “The A1245 and the A130 are CLOSED Southbound from the A127 at the Fairglen Interchange to the A13 at Sadlers Farm.
“There are long delays on the A127 London-bound and the A130 in both directions. There are also long delays in Rayleigh, Rawreth, Wickford and Rettendon.”
First Essex buses were disrupted due to the road closure including the X30 bus to Stansted Airport. Other First bus services affected included the 3, 20, 25 and school bus services.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: “Our serious collision investigation unit are continuing enquiries and appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or has any dashcam footage to contact us, quoting incident number 121 of 4 September.
