Two men charged following stabbing in Southend city centre

A police cordon is on Chichester Road in Southend City Centre, following a serious incident yesterday.

A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital following a serious assault. The road has been closed in both directions.

Police officers are guarding the scene, which is near to the Travelodge hotel and former Frankie & Benny’s restaurant.

Part of Warrior Square has also been cordoned off whilst police investigate.

Bus routes in and out of Southend station are facing disruption due to the road closure.

UPDATE: Essex Police Chief Inspector Dan McHugh, said: “Our officers have made a quick, effective response to this incident and arrested a man.

“We are remaining on scene whilst we carry out enquiries. We would ask anyone who was in the vicinity of Chichester Road, Warrior Square or Southchurch area at the time who may have information that could help our investigation to contact us.

“We’d like to ask anyone with dash cam or footage of any part of the incident to review their devices and see if they have captured anything that could help us establish the facts and what happened in the lead up to the incident.”

UPDATE 2: Police have now charged two men following this serious assault. Essex Police confirmed they were called to Chichester Road shortly after 3.20pm on Tuesday 28 November, where they found a man who had sustained a stab wound to his torso.

Two men were arrested a short time later. Daniel Mallet, thirty years old, of York Road, Southend, was charged with GBH with intent and possession of a bladed article.

Thirty year old Paul Hughes, also of York Road, Southend, was also charged with GBH with intent and assault by beating.
