The A13 has been closed between Sadlers Farm and the Pitsea Flyover following a major collision involving multiple vehicles on Sunday morning.
The incident happened at around 10am on Sunday, 9 August, with emergency services responding to the scene and motorists facing significant disruption.
According to eyewitness reports from the scene, there appear to have been “multiple vehicles in separate collisions in the same location”.
Several ambulances have reportedly been sent to the incident, with emergency crews working to treat people who have been injured. The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
Many drivers remain stuck in standstill traffic behind the collision.
One driver who passed the scene said: “I drove past what seemed to be the first crash where a van had gone into the side of a car.”
Other motorists have reported that at least one further vehicle may have subsequently crashed in the same area, although the exact circumstances and number of vehicles involved have not yet been officially confirmed.
The A13 is a key route through south Essex, connecting Basildon and Pitsea with the Sadlers Farm interchange and routes towards Benfleet, Canvey Island and Southend. The closure is therefore likely to cause significant disruption in the surrounding area.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the affected stretch and seek an alternative route while emergency services deal with the incident.
