Greater Anglia railway lines suspended due to storm damage

Greater Anglia have issued a ‘DO NOT TRAVEL’ warning due to multiple overhead wire problems during Storm Henk.

A weather monitoring station at Southend Airport recorded gusts of 60MPH.

The railway line between Southend Victoria and Shenfield has been blocked in both directions. No trains are running and the line has been suspended.

Network Rail response teams have been dispatched to assess the situation but disruption is expected well into the evening.

Southend Coastguard also issued the following statement: “The Southend area is experiencing Storm Henk with very high winds and extreme gusts expected well into this evening.

“A Met Office Amber alert is currently in place and we would ask you not to take any unnecessary risks around our coastline to ensure your safety.”

Southend City Council are encouraging the public to report fallen trees causing a safety issue immediately on 01702 215000.
