Mimi the cat has become the newest member of staff at Thorpe Bay train station, bringing smiles to passengers every morning.
According to c2c bosses, Mimi is a valued and dedicated member of the team at the railway station. Her daily duties include:
- Checking tickets at the gates.
- Having a snooze on her lunch break.
- Security patrols around the station.
- More checking tickets.
Mimi lives at home around 2 minutes from the station, travelling to her shift each morning.
Her owners know about her part time job and are happy for her to continue making passengers smile.
Local resident Carla Ray said: “My son has seen her most afternoons on his way home from school, He said she is such a lovely cat and looked forward to seeing her each day.”
Another resident said: “Mimi followed us from the station all the way to Little Thorpe at 11pm one night. We thought she was a stray but now realise she was just making sure we got home safely, thanks Mimi!”
Over half a million passengers travelled through the station during 2022-2023. Thorpe Bay saw a total of 596,820 entries and exits, although this is still considerably lower than the pre-pandemic figure.
