Wheelchair-friendly boardwalk installed on Southend beach

A new “fully accessible” beach boardwalk has been built in Southend for Summer 2024.

The new accessible timber boardwalk has been completed at Chalkwell beach, allowing people in wheelchairs, or people with limited mobility, access to enjoy the beach.

The wheelchair-friendly boardwalk has been installed on the sand near to Chalkwell Train Station.

Neil Hoskins, head of civil engineering at Southend City Council, said: “We’re very pleased that a wheelchair-friendly boardwalk has been added, giving all our residents the chance to appreciate the beauty and the benefit of nature in detail.”

Alan Richards, Executive Director for Environment and Place at Southend City Council, added: “As if you need any more reasons to visit Southend, the beautiful beach at Chalkwell Beach is now accessible for all.”
