Doctors told this woman she would not live past 16 years old, because of her cystic fibrosis.
Now aged 32, Sophie Holmes has just completed running 36 marathons in 36 days.
It is officially a new world record for the most consecutive marathons ever completed by a female who has cystic fibrosis.
Sophie, who lives in Southend, ran a total 943 miles through the 36-day challenge. She was born with cystic fibrosis – a hereditary disorder which impacts sufferers lungs and digestive system.
On Wednesday she was presented with her medal on Southend Pier by the Mayor of Southend.
Ms Holmes said: “Fitness saved my entire life. I am proud of my body for never giving up when the odds are against it.
“Cystic fibrosis will never ever define me, but will always be my driving force to defy, and achieve against all odds.”
She has also fundraised over £25,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, as a thank you for the support she has received through her life.
