It’s been announced that the Revolution bar in Southend is closing down, after 7 years as part of Southend’s nightlife scene.
Revolution Southend will close its doors for the final time on 8th June 2024.
It’s part of a restructuring process of the company, who are closing bars that are not as financially viable.
The company said it had cut its annual profit outlook, reporting that younger customers were being disproportionately impacted by the higher cost of living. The chain is closing up to 18 of its venues.
The Revs bar in Southend is already closed on Monday as of last year, to help save costs when it sees quieter trade.
A Southend resident, Theresa Richards, said: “There is no bar or nightclub culture in Southend anymore. God knows where the students go out now. When I think what it was like in the 90s there were at least 6 clubs and other bars – but they’ve all gone.”
All of the staff who work at the Southend venue now face losing their jobs.
