Speed camera cut down and stolen in Essex

A speed camera in Essex appears to have been cut down overnight in a targeted act.

The camera, which had been situated on Ashingdon Road in Rochford for many years, was discovered missing early this morning.

At approximately 1:20 am, local residents reported hearing a loud noise, followed by sightings of an individual placing the head of the speed camera into a car.

The speed camera was later found propped up on a bench about a mile away, at the bottom of Ashingdon Hill.

The 30MPH speed camera has caught many drivers over the years, with most drivers receiving points on their licence and a fine.

Essex County Council confirmed it has filed a report of criminal damage with Essex Police. It’s expected that the speed camera will be replaced in due course.
