A stolen car was joy ridden into a skatepark last night, with the suspects leaving the car dumped in the middle of the skatepark.
The car was reportedly stolen from Southend-on-Sea, before being driven to Hullbridge in Essex where it entered the new skate park.
According to local residents, the car was then heard doing ‘doughnuts’ in the skate park and attempting other “tricks”.
Police officers were present in the morning, arranging recovery of the vehicle and investigating the incident.
The skate park was only opened by Rochford Council one week ago. The brand-new Hullbridge Skatepark in Pooles Lane was funded through 106 agreement funds.
The new Essex skatepark features a closed bowl design with plenty of space for different ramp heights.
Julie Gooding, councillor responsible for Hawkwell West, said that concrete blocks will now be installed to prevent cars being driven into the skate park again.
She said: “It’s sad to see the new facility not appreciated by the minority. The car has since been removed and concrete blocks will be put in place to stop any further incursions as a matter of urgency.”
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports of a stolen vehicle driven into Hullbridge Skatepark, in Pooles Lane, early on Monday, July 22.
“The vehicle, a Ford Ka, left the road and drove into the skatepark. Witnesses reported two suspects leaving the scene at about 3.45am. The car has now been recovered and our investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
